Overview

The American Cancer Society (ACS) and ASTRO collaborate on the Clinician Scientist Development Grant (CSDG) program to support full-time faculty members in becoming independent investigators as clinician scientists. This grant is designed for individuals trained primarily as clinicians who want to maintain clinical practice and conduct cancer research. The applicant must be in the radiation oncology field.

  • Award Amount: Up to $729,000
  • Award Duration: Three to five years
  • Deadline: Applications are closed for the 2026 ASTRO-ACS CSDG
  • Award Notification: August 2026
  • Start Date: October 1, 2026

Eligibility

  • Full-time faculty at a U.S. academic institution or eligible nonprofit.
  • Applicants must have a doctoral degree (or terminal degree for their field), an active clinical license, and participate in clinical care. Applicants may also be board-certified clinical medical physicists.
  • Applicants should not be a current or former principal investigator (PI) of an individual mentored training grant.
  • Applicants may not have been the PI of an independent extramural research grant that is more than one year AND more than $100,000 direct costs, including multi-PI awards.
  • Must have institutional commitment for the applicant to devote at least 50% effort to CSDG research and training.
