Advancing Research Talent Subcommittee

Subcommittee Charter

I. Name
The name of the Subcommittee shall be Advancing Research Talent (ART).

II. Purpose 
The purpose of the Advancing Research Talent Subcommittee shall be to foster the development and success of current and future researchers in radiation medicine by supporting mentorship, career development, professional recognition, and educational opportunities that strengthen the research workforce and advance scientific discovery.

III. Responsibilities 
The responsibilities of the Advancing Research Talent Subcommittee are as follows: 

  • Develop programs and resources to support investigators throughout their careers. Current programs include:
    • Research Oriented Career Knowledge and Support (ROCKS) webinars
    • Grant Writing Workshop 
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the research workforce in radiation medicine. 
  • Promote engagement and networking among researchers across career stages.
  • Oversee researcher recognition and awards programs as assigned by the Science Council.

IV. Subcommittee Membership and Structure 
The Advancing Research Talent Subcommittee shall be composed of ASTRO members appointed by the Foundation President and ratified by the Board with one member serving as Chair and one member serving as Vice Chair. Subcommittee members should be on a research career pathway. Subcommittee members are appointed for a period of one year. Service is generally limited to five consecutive terms unless additional terms are deemed necessary.

Meetings can be in person, by phone, or by video conferencing platform. The Subcommittee may invite others to meetings as it deems attendance necessary and appropriate. The Subcommittee Chair, or staff liaison, is responsible for ensuring approved minutes are part of the Foundation’s records and submitting reports and recommendations to the Science Council or Board.

V. Authority 
The Board or Science Council, from time to time, might delegate additional duties to the Subcommittee. All actions taken by the Subcommittee are subject to review by the Board and may be overturned by vote of the Board.
