Juan A. del Regato in Marie Curie lab
Today, the Fund supports the ARRO del Regato webinars for radiation oncology residents to honor Dr. del Regato’s legacy and dedication to training physicians entering the field. The webinars are made possible through an educational partnership with ASTRO. The Fund is also committed to preserving the works of Dr. del Regato and other founders of radiation oncology and making them accessible to all with an interest in the history of this revolutionizing cancer treatment and cure.
The Fund strives to foster an interest in the history of radiation oncology and allied fields by writing historical works and preserving valuable materials. Dr. del Regato’s collection of reprints, numbering well over 10,000 pieces, is housed in the Radiation Oncology Department of the Medical College of Wisconsin for the use of scholars and researchers. As part of its contribution to the Centennial of the X-ray in 1995, the Fund sponsored the development of a series of books on careers in the related medical professions, leading off with a volume on life in radiation oncology, including its history and basic science. This along with other historical publications by and about Dr. del Regato and the field are preserved on this website.
The Fund hopes to interest students at all levels in radiation oncology and its possibilities, both as a rewarding and satisfying career, and as a technology revolutionizing cancer treatment and cure.
