ASTRO-LUNGevity Residents/Fellows in Radiation Oncology Seed Grant

ASTRO and LUNGevity partner to support residents and fellows who are conducting radiation oncology related research that has the potential to benefit patients with lung cancer. They do so by providing grants that will help advance trainees’ careers and accelerate discoveries in the field. Specific areas of interest may include, but are not limited to: basic, translational and clinical research in the radiation therapy sciences; projects in which innovative techniques, new methods or special equipment leading to better lung cancer patient care are developed; aspects of health care planning and delivery, including outcome evaluation studies; and development of programs in health education relevant to the radiation therapy sciences and lung cancer.

Eligibility

• Applicants must hold a doctorate degree such as PhD, MD/PhD, MD, DO, or other equivalent degrees(s) and must be enrolled in a U.S. residency or fellowship at the time of application.
• Investigators must be working in the fields of radiation oncology, radiation or cancer biology, or radiation physics.
• PIs are required to commit at least 75% of their full-time professional effort to research. The remainder may be devoted to clinical or other pursuits consistent with the objectives of the grant.
• The Sponsoring Institution must be a public/state controlled or private institution of higher education or another qualified nonprofit organization in the U.S.

The proposal is composed of an application form that includes general audience and technical abstracts, an impact statement, research assurances, and the signature of an Institutional Signing Official. The following documents must also be uploaded:

• Research Plan (six-page limit)
• Biosketches of the applicant and lead mentor (five-page limit)
• Budget and Budget Justification
• Mentoring Plan (one-page limit)
• Letters of Support from the lead mentor, the Institution or Department and a collaborator
